Wordpress running on a Bubba !
January 17th, 2007
Well this is just a bit of filler text to create a new Blog entry. For those of you who have come from the front page may have noticed that CASHAW Web Services is “now running on a Bubba” Well so now is this Wordpress Blog !

After installing Apache 2 + MySQL + Wordpress onto the Bubba from the Debian repositories it was very quick to get everything up and running.
Perhaps this is running slower than normal, although as Bubba has only 60MB of memory coupled with an ARM processor running at 120Mhz it is surprising it runs at all.
Most importantly of all is that with the Bubba nominally requring only 10 watts of power, it is perfectly possible, indeed desirable to leave it up and running 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
This little box (and it is little !) now stores all my music files, video files. These Webpages and Wordpress Blog. It holds all my emails which can be collected via a Web Interface or via my phone and IMAP mailbox. It also acts as an “always on” music server. No more need to find all those CD’s I’ve mislaid when all the CD’s are now stored in a central location and can be streamed over my internal network to my Hi-Fi (with the help of a Pinnacle Soundbridge). To say that Bubba has replaced over 50% the functionality of my energy heavy SUSE server is an understatement. My old PC is soon to be decommisioned and replaced by a smaller laptop; which I hate to say may be loaded with Vista. I’ve had it with Linux which takes continual hacking to keep it working. Although Bubba functions with Debian SARGE, as the manufacturers instructions say, all you need to do is plug Bubba into your network, power it up and configure it from the easy Web Interface. Then the only maintenance you need to do is the occasional dusting from time-to-time, it really is that straight forward.
A fully functional Linux server without the hassle.
